British Gas boss Chris O'Shea: 'I can't justify my pay of £4.5m'
The boss of British Gas owner Centrica has told the BBC his pay last year of £4.5m is "Impossible to justify". When the interview turned to his own pay package, he admitted that there was "No point" in trying to justify what he received. It came shortly after an investigation by the Times newspaper revealed debt agents working for British Gas had broken into the homes of vulnerable people to force-fit prepayment meters. It led to a temporary sector-wide ban on such fittings, with British Gas still unable to resume under stricter rules. Mr O'Shea said that the retail arm of British Gas contributed £150m to that figure.
